Why do we always have excuses?

On-the-outside-2
Does anyone else notice that we have so many excuses? I am talking about the difference between what we do and what we say is important. If we believe in something and we say that it is important, why do we spend so little time trying to accomplish that.

I've notice this in myself most of all. I have a lot of things that I say are important, like feeding the hungry, and clothing the naked, and finding shelter for the homeless, etc. However when Its time to do these things I seem to always have really good excuses why I can't or rather, I won't. Work, Church, Travel, Not enough money. These come to the front of my mind everytime I am presented with an opportunity. I've become an expert at excuses.

I want to be someone that sees an opportunity and takes it. Some would call that spontaneous...I call it consciousness. This is what I think about when I think about being conscious to my surroundings. There are homeless people right down that street from my house. And while I sit in an air-conditioned office right now, someone "out there" is wondering how they are going to get some food today. This is only going to change when we become conscious people, committed to change, sacrificing comfort, being available to be used for the greater good.
